The French ambient Post-Metal group Baikal continues to chart its course with a second single, accompanied by a contemplative clip.
An ambitious project born from multiple influences
Founded by Jérôme Colombelli (ex-Uneven Structure, ex-Cult Of Occult) and Matthieu Romarin (Psykup, Uneven Structure), Baikal skillfully mixes dark trip-hop atmospheres, powerful post-Metal guitars and electro-industrial sounds. Born in 2020 during the pandemic, the band drew on its members’ varied influences to create a sound that was both heavy and introspective.

Cardinal : an immersion in obsession and madness
With CardinalBaikal delivers an oppressive and captivating title. According to Jérôme Colombelli, the song is built around a heavy guitar riff, enriched by a trip-hop bass-drums loop and layers of ambient guitars, giving a disturbing atmosphere.
Matthieu Romarin’s lyrics explore a sick obsession with numbers, symbolizing an insatiable quest for satisfaction that leads to madness. “They also reflect the unhealthy aspect of the constant counting that surrounds us today: weight, steps, likes…”
The Music video, directed by Colombelli, illustrates this destructive quest, reinforcing the emotional impact of the piece.
A promising future for Baikal
Baikal took her first steps on stage in 2022 in Lyon, alongside Céleste. In 2023, the group recorded eight tracks, produced and mixed by Chris Edrich (Leprous, Alcest, The Ocean). Cardinal is their second single after Rorschachreleased earlier this year.
