Drake VS UMG: the complaint relaunches “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar!
The conflict between Drake and Kendrick Lamar takes on a new dimension with the legal action taken by the Canadian rapper against Universal Music Group (UMG). This legal approach had an unexpected effect, propelling Kendrick Lamar's “Not Like Us” to new heights.
On November 25, Drake filed a lawsuit against UMG, accusing the label of artificially inflating the popularity of “Not Like Us”. But this action had the opposite effect than expected. Since the complaint was filed, sales of the track jumped 440%, while streams increased 20%. The title also climbed the rankings of Apple Music and Spotify, gaining 16 places in the global rankings of the latter.
In his complaint, Drake claims UMG used questionable methods to promote “Not Like Us” : from theuse of bots to artificially inflate plays, paying influencers to promote the song on social networks, and the alleged manipulation of Apple's Siri voice assistant to redirect listeners to the Kendrick Lamar song.
Drake also accuses UMG of defamation, claiming the label allowed the release of a song calling him a “certified pedophile” and a “predator”.
