Lara Fabian talks about her collaboration with Slimane: “A desire on my part”

This album took a long time to come together. Is it because the songs are partly autobiographical?

Lara Fabian. I needed all this time, this space of resilience to learn to turn an obstacle into an opportunity, to understand that I was stronger than I believed. I feel free and at peace.

Slimane co-signs the majority of the titles. How did your collaboration go?

The meeting with Slimane was the result of a desire on my part. I had been observing him for a long time, I loved his music and his way of saying things. I had the feeling of having pain, of common paths.

In A Flower in the Mouth, you say that you felt ugly in your father's eyes. How did he perceive the message?

I didn't write it for him, but for all the women who have experienced the absence of that first sight. When I needed to talk to my father, I did it behind closed doors, in complete freedom and with a lot of love. He comes from a generation where feelings are difficult to express. He showed me his love in other ways. He was a man who did so much in his life to ensure that I was safe, fed, guided and educated. But at one point, I needed to ask him: “Will you tell me that you love me?” to be repaired.

Do you also address your daughter, Lou, 17, in From a Woman to a Woman?

This song is addressed to my daughter, in fact, but also to all mothers who find themselves in front of a young woman in whom they recognize themselves. We would all like to pass on a piece of our experience to our daughters to help them grow.

You will be on tour in 2025. Are you going to give up your TV commitments?

No, everything will fit smoothly into the schedule, since I will spend the winter between France and Quebec before rehearsals in the spring. I am attached to these shows like The Voice Kids and Star Ac’ of which I was one of the “exceptional teachers” this year. Passing on to young artists is a passion. I'm even going to open a singing school in Italy. I'm also looking forward to going on stage. I'm going to do my first Accor Arena and, as it's already full, I'll have a second one in 2026!
