Faudel returns to the hurtful sentence of Pascal Obispo which pushed him to sing “My country”

Return to 2007. Nicolas Sarkozy chooses to enter the race for the presidential election, becoming the UMP candidate. His candidacy is supported by many celebrities such as Johnny Hallyday, Arthur, Enrico Macias but also by the singer Faudel. Guest of the Virgin Radio morning show in 2022, the latter wanted to return to this period which caused him a lot of harm. “We must not go into politics. I went into something like I'm pretty whole, true… I met him, he was on the ground. He was in Neuilly, no one knew him, there was not yet the story of the hostage taking at the kindergarten. He had married a friend of mine who is a footballer but really I have nothing to do with politics. I don't even know how it works“, he assured.

Why did Faudel leave ?

And to regret: “In France, it's complicated… Jay-Z, he's going to see Obama, it's cool, it's peaceful. In France, politics doesn't matter, we shouldn't go there because it's not our job. Today, I have a lot of perspective on that. It's the only stupid thing, in quotes, that I've been able to do in life. I shouldn't be in there because it wasn't my place. I felt very bad, I had threats. I lost everything! I received anonymous letters. My son has been attacked several times because of this. To be able to survive and get out of the water, I only had one solution, which was to leave France.“.

This hurtful remark from Pascal Obispo

In a video shared on his Instagram account, the singer walks near the Seine in and sings his song “My country”. He recently made his comeback with his title “Monica” and intends to regain its place at the front of the stage. In this video, we see him walking in the company of a journalist who asks him a few questions and to whom he recounts the genesis of his title “My country”. Born in Mantes-la-Jolie, Faudel is a Franco-Algerian singer famous for his contribution to raï but regrets being too often sent back to his origins even though he was born in France.

A remark from Pascal Obispo had frankly hurt him on this subject. Indeed, he confided: “It's an idea that started from a base. I was doing 'Sa raison d'être' with Pascal Obispo, with lots of artists and I think there were at least forty of them. And for a while we is in the studio with Johnny Hallyday and he says to me: 'Faudel, can you do me some stuff from your country?' And I took it really badly.” “And I tell him: ‘But wait, this is where I was born’he finished remembering.
