Brandon Short leaves Austrian Death Machine due to “intolerable circumstances”.
A difficult separation for Brandon Short
Brandon Short, drummer for Metal comedy project Austrian Death Machine, announced his departure from the band on November 15 via social media. The decision, which he describes as inevitable, follows personal and ethical concerns linked to recent controversies surrounding Tim Lambesis, founder of Austrian Death Machine and frontman of As I Lay Dying.
“For the sake of my mental health and personal beliefs, and in light of recent developments surrounding Tim, this decision has become inevitable,” Short said. Despite his attachment to the group, which he admired since his adolescence, the drummer spoke of broken promises and repetitive behavior having eroded his confidence. “Words that once brought me hope turned into a broken record that brought no real change,” he added.
Short also stressed that these circumstances had profoundly affected his well-being, making the continuation of this collaboration impossible.

Tensions within Tim Lambesis’ entourage
Short's departure is part of a broader context of turmoil around Tim Lambesis. In recent weeks, several members of As I Lay Dying's final lineup have left the group, citing moral concerns or negative experiences. Among them, Phil Sgrosso declared: “Recent actions have shown that As I Lay Dying no longer provides a healthy or safe environment for anyone, whether creatively, personally or professionally.”
Ken Susi, Nick Pierce and Ryan Neff also announced their departures, leaving Lambesis as the only remaining member. The latter said he wanted to rebuild the group and plans to resume concerts in 2025.
The uncertain future of Austrian Death Machine
Austrian Death Machine, known for its humorous approach to metal inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger, made a notable comeback this year with the album Quad Brutal. Brandon Short, who played a key role in this opus, expressed his gratitude to the fans for their support and energy during recent concerts in Europe.
In his statement, he concluded on an optimistic note: “Now is the time to embrace new adventures and create even more music that resonates. The best is yet to come!”
With Short's departure and ongoing controversies surrounding Tim Lambesis, the future of Austrian Death Machine remains uncertain. The group will face many challenges to maintain its momentum and its audience.
