Florent Pagny under the eye of his daughter Ael: “There are no prohibited photos”

Florent Pagny talks about the recurrence of his cancer: “My kids lived this story with me, it wasn’t funny”

Was it an agreement between you not to photograph the bad moments?

“Yes, even if I am as modest as him. In our family, we are all very modest. And it is not my reflex to catch my father in the middle of treatment, suffering. And he was not not thinking about it. We took one, but it was to mark the occasion of the last treatment. But here we are, it was more in the more joyful moments that we chose to do. sessions. I take photos to mark a moment that existed. I really like looking at my parents’ old photos and albums, or at our age, with my brother, imagining what it was like. “That was their life. I’m young and I’m not going to lose my memory right away, but if one day I lose my memory, I would like to have the photos for my memories.”

Have you banned yourself from publishing certain photos?

“There are inevitably photos that we haven’t published… Either because we don’t like them, or because we keep them to ourselves. But there are no prohibited photos. Except maybe -being a bad face in the photo, it wasn’t super intense stuff that we didn’t want to share, it was quite fluid.”

Florent Pagny gives his news: “Health is going well… with a three-month perspective”

With, as a common thread, your dad’s smile…

“Yes, that’s true. But it was really by intuition. I chose the photos that spoke to me the most. I wouldn’t really have an explanation for each photo, why it speaks to me. It’s just that the image, the composition, the colors, there is something that works and to my eye, it’s the best. So I choose it. But people also see things that maybe I didn’t have. necessarily seen. And get things out of it that I didn’t get.”

Has this photo book brought you even closer together?

“Not necessarily. We’re a very close-knit family basically. But I think I liked it… I learned more about myself as a photographer. I realized that I really like being in concerts and take photos of scenes But as a family, we have always been very close. It’s a plus but it hasn’t changed our dynamic.

And how do you see your father through your lens?

“I really live day by day… I live in the present and the present moment. I don’t make too much of a fuss. When we were doing the report at Mont-Saint-Michel, I took photos of my father. We just spend a nice day in a place he loves. I didn’t see the magnitude of the image, but it’s up to everyone to interpret it as they want. didn’t see the sick man behind my photos Just dad, the handsome guy posing at Mont-Saint-Michel. (smile) !”

Seeing your father without hair or mustache must have been a shock…

“Yes, but they absolutely wanted to take these photos before the lives of The Voice to show themselves a little to the public. So that it wouldn’t be such a shock to see him on like that. And since he trusts me too. I know his favorite angles (smile) ! “

And how is he today?

“He’s doing well, thank you. People tend to tell me that he’s cured, that it’s over. But it’s a very unpredictable illness. We’re always on the lookout. He has checks every 3 month. We know that the day we have a check-up, we have to wait for the results. We know that everything can change from one day to the next. But as long as we have the OK, everything is fine. We are very happy. We live in the present and we do not think about the next test which is coming in 3 months. We will think about it when the day arrives. Hope and positivity are essential during these ordeals.
