A romantic breakup. The theme has inspired so many artists throughout the centuries that some might fear venturing down a well-trodden path. This is not the case for Chilla, who scored “333”. Three figures for an album of thirteen rapped-sung tracks where the artist draws a more intimate image, going against the committed texts to which she has long been reduced.

Once associated with her feminist hit “If I Was a Man”, Chilla returns to the label of committed artist which stuck to her. “I was a committed artist when I started rap, a discipline that appealed to me all the more because it highlighted serious subjects,” she begins. However, the rapper never sought to politicize her texts, “I was just telling my life story,” the artist explains. “If we look at my discography, there are three committed titles, but generally speaking, I am an egocentric artist who talks about herself and her moods.” That's good, in her new album, Chilla defends a more intimate project, with the main theme of the end of a three-year romantic relationship which deeply affected her.
The rapper also told us about the relationship she has with Madagascar. Country of birth of his father where “Music has a very important place”. Setting out to discover the island, Chilla lets us experience her exploration through her eyes and ears. In a homemade clip shot on the phone, the rapper sings about her origins in a piano-vocal piece, accompanied by Sofiane Pamart.

A duo like the artist likes – from the beginning, she collaborated with the rapper Lino. And which she puts in the spotlight on two of the thirteen tracks of her album, with the rappers Kobo and Disiz. The collaboration with the latter, an artist with whom she “dreamed of collaborating”, particularly marked her.
