Mariah Carey has shared her disappointment at narrowly missing out on being inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
One more disappointment. Nominated alongside Cher, Ozzy Osbourne and Mary J. Blige this year to join the prestigious Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, Mariah Carey was ultimately not selected, unlike her comrades in April. A decision that the singer has difficulty understanding, as she told the Los Angeles Times.
“Everyone was telling me, ‘I think it’s for this year,’ and I was really excited. But it didn’t come to fruition,” explained the singer, before adding with humor that “[son] lawyer entered the Hall of Fame before [elle]”. Mariah Carey was referring to entertainment lawyer Allen Grubman, who represents artists like Lady Gaga, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez, and who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022, as the recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Award, awarded to non-performers who have made their mark on the music industry.
The musician also mentioned her five Grammy Awards, which she considers insufficient given her prolific career. “They gave me two Grammys when I started. Then one year – an important year for me career-wise – I had six nominations with the album “Daydream” and “One Sweet Day”, “Always Be My Baby” and “Fantasy”. All these songs in a row ended up being so successful that I was like, ‘OK, at least ‘One Sweet Day’ is going to win best duet or something,'” she explained. .
The Christmas season is open
“I sat there the whole time and got nothing. I was like, “This isn’t funny. But what can I do? Be a sore loser and say, ‘I’m f***ing the Grammys?’ they give me more Grammys, I will love them even more,” concluded the artist.
