Gilbert Montagné: “I would like to see the eyes of my wife, of my grandchildren”

“On va s’aimer”, “Les sunlights des tropiques”, “The Fool”, “J’ai le blues de toi”, “Liberté”… We can no longer count the hits of Gilbert Montagné who is one of the figures of the disco period in France. At 72, he continues to give several dozen concerts per year.

It was during one of his concerts that the singer, who is blind, fell from the stage on June 22. An accident fortunately without consequences. “The next day, I had two hours of osteopathy and my practitioner told me that it was a miracle that I didn’t break something,” explained Gilbert Montagné in the TF1 celebrity show “50 mn inside”, Saturday November 2. “I have a few bruises. But it’s really nothing…”

During the interview, host Isabelle Ithurburu asked Gilbert Montagné what he would like to see first if he could regain his sight. “I think I would like to see the eyes of my wife, my grandchildren,” replied the singer. “You people are so addicted to eyes, psychics… It’s really abstract to me, that. But I think I would like that.” Isabelle Ithurburu then asked him if eyes were not necessary to love. No, assures Gilbert Montagné. “We don’t need our eyes at all to love, the proof. We need a clear and healthy mind and a beating heart. That’s all we need.”

Gilbert Montagné has shared Nikole’s life for over 30 years. The couple married in 1999. Father of two boys – Eric born in 1975 and Nicolas born 10 years later – the singer is the head of a large blended family with his wife’s three children. He is a grandfather seven times over.

Family originality: Gilbert Montagné’s eldest son is married to… Nikole’s eldest daughter! The couple have two young daughters. “We didn’t expect it, life is crazy,” Gilbert Montagné’s wife confided to Gala in 2023.
