Friendship, creation, success… The secrets of Zaho de Sagazan

A new face of French pop, the 24-year-old singer spoke to BFMTV on the occasion of the release of a new version of her album, enhanced with seven previously unreleased tracks.

A new chapter in the meteoric rise of Zaho de Sagazan is being written: the 24-year-old singer published a reissue of her first album on Friday, October 25 The Symphony of Lightningtitled The Symphony of Lightning, the last of the journeyshere enhanced with seven previously unreleased tracks. The opportunity for BFMTV to meet last year's pop revelation, who despite everything keeps a cool head.

“(My friends) are all very happy with what is happening to me (but) if I got a big head, they would give me two little slaps and it would be better,” she jokes.

“When you work with your friends, they don’t want to lose their girlfriend,” she explains. They see the artist, the business manager, but above all they see the girlfriend. These are very healthy relationships. They stabilize this boat a lot, which could be a little scary.”

Magical experience

And it is better for her if she is not afraid of success: The Symphony of Lightningcertified platinum, has sold 170,000 copies and equivalents. It earned her no less than four Victoires de la Musique at the last ceremony, she performed at the Cannes Festival, she sang during the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, and gave countless concerts. ..

Which did not prevent her from continuing to write, on the tour bus, during soundchecks, at home, alone or surrounded… thus were born the seven unpublished works of The Symphony of Lightning, the last of the journeys. Among which is Old Frienda duet title with 33-year-old British singer Tom Odell. The realization of a dream for Zaho de Sagazan, an admirer of the musician for years.

“I’ve listened to this song a lot of times. This is the first time I’ve listened to my own song over and over!”, she laughs. “I dreamed of it for a very long time.”

“It's called Old Friend“old friend”, because Tom Odell has been my friend, my companion for ten years… even though he doesn't know about it! We all have companions like that who follow us for a very long time, it can be a book, a voice, a poem, anything. And I had the magical experience of this companion transforming into a true friend.”

And the magical experience of Zaho de Sagazan goes beyond borders. In December, she will perform in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, before embarking on a European tour between February and March 2025 which will take her to Amsterdam, Berlin or London.

“I'm delighted to tell myself that my songs are not just lyrics but that they can also be appreciated by people who don't understand what I'm saying. It gives them another life and I find that very pretty.”
