“I don’t want to fall on stage”
While she has just released a new compilation of her greatest hits, the singer of “Love as a legacy” talks about the end of his career. If she had already announced that she was bowing out 10 years ago, Nana Mouskouri could not bring herself to do so.
However today, after celebrating her 90th birthday, the singer no longer has the same opinion: “When you reach a certain age, you have to remain dignified. I don’t want to fall on stage”she confided to Parisian.
“During Covid-19, I lost strength. I was hospitalized for a month in the emergency room and, when I came out, I fell at home. I don’t like to say that, because I don’t want to not that people are sad, but it’s the truth Since then, I’ve been careful.”explains the singer who also sang “The Marseillaise” for the passage of the flame in Greece.
Several health concerns
During Covid-19, the Greek artist suffered from double pneumonia which greatly weakened her. In addition to this, the Greek artist went through other ordeals which were a kind of wake-up call for her: pancreatic cancer in 2015 and peritonitis in 2019.
“I think I’ve done enough.”she explained to the German magazine The mirror these last few days. “I can’t pretend to be a young woman. I don’t want to hurt people. I don’t have the right to go on stage and sing badly, even if the audience applauds me for it.”
However, fans of the interpreter of “ I sing with you freedom” can reassure themselves. Nana Mouskouri will not leave on the sly: “I would like to do three or four farewell concerts, including one last big concert in France”she reveals to Parisian.
