Dream Theater makes a highly anticipated return with Parasomniahis first album since 2009 with drummer Mike Portnoy. The group also shared the first excerpt from this sixteenth opus: Night Terroran intense piece of almost ten minutes.
The return of Mike Portnoy: a historic reunion
Since Mike Portnoy returned to Dream Theater last year, fans have been eagerly awaiting new compositions from this legendary lineup. With Parasomniathe group offers a return to its roots while bringing freshness to its music. This new album, scheduled for February 7, 2025 via InsideOut Music, marks their first studio collaboration since Black Clouds & Silver Linings in 2009.
Guitarist John Petrucci shared his excitement about working with Portnoy again: “It’s like we never stopped. The creativity really flowed seamlessly. There’s an undeniable chemistry when you get together with certain people, and that comes through on this album.”

Parasomnia : an exploration of the mysteries of sleep
The album’s title refers to sleep disorders such as sleepwalking, sleep paralysis and night terrors. This theme runs through all eight tracks on the disc, which offers 71 minutes of captivating progressive music.
The first single, Night Terroris a piece of almost ten minutes, both complex and captivating, which demonstrates the musical expertise of the group. The music video for this title, directed by Mike Leonard, is now available online.
A rich and immersive album
Parasomnia was produced by John Petrucci, recorded by James “Jimmy T” Meslin and mixed by Andy Sneap. The famous Hugh Syme, who regularly collaborates with the group, also contributed to the album’s artwork. Stocks to watch include In The Arms Of Morpheus, Dead Asleep and the epic The Shadow Man Incidentwhich lasts almost 20 minutes.

Dream Theater has announced several formats for the album release, including a deluxe box set featuring instrumental versions and a Dolby Atmos mix, as well as numerous exclusive items for collectors.

The band’s anniversary tour
Dream Theater will also celebrate its 40th career with a world tour entitled An Evening with Dream Theater. It will kick off at the O2 Arena in London on October 20, 2024, before traveling across Europe, including two dates in France: in Lyon on November 14 and in Paris on November 23, 2024. This tour will be the first since the return of Mike Portnoy, and the group promises a memorable evening, covering their classics and fan favorites.
