Kim Deal (The Breeders) releases new solo single

La collection « Cardinals at the Window » includes previously unreleased tracks from REM, The War on Drugs, Jason Isbell and others in support of hurricane victims.

More than a hundred artists, including REM, MJ Lenderman, War on Drugs, Feist and Waxahatchee, donated unreleased tracks to form a charity compilation, Cardinals at the Window. Proceeds from this compilation of 135 tracks, available on Bandcamp, will help help victims of Hurricane Helen in western North Carolina, United States.

Other contributing artists include Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Angel Olsen, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Sharon Van Etten, Jeff Tweedy and Karly Hartzman, Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, Sylvan Esso, Fleet Foxes, Little Brother, Archers of Loaf, Iron & Wine, the Avett Brothers and Jason Isbell. Unreleased recordings include demos and live versions of songs, as well as previously unreleased songs.

REM’s contribution is a live rendition of “ King of Birds ” recorded in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1988. Iron and Wine offered a cover of ” How Can You Mend a Broken Heart » by the Bee Gees. Finally, Waxahatchee and Sluice covered Gillian Welch songs especially for the compilation.

Proceeds will benefit three organizations: Rural Organizing and Resilience, BeLoved Asheville and the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. The website Cardinals at the Window, which is part of the Music’s Promise organization, also allows you to donate independently of purchasing the compilation.

« So many people had witnessed, like us, the destruction of these sacred places said musician Libby Rodenbough, who helped create the compilation. She was on tour with the band Dead Tongues when the storm hit her home. “ People engaged instantly. They feel what I feel, that these mountains are the cradle of deep, inexpressible magic. »

Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida on September 27 and headed toward the northern United States, dumping downpours of water in western North Carolina. More than 200 people have died and hundreds are still missing.
