Ali Farka Touré’s stolen trophy has been found, “it’s a party in the village”

In Mali, beautiful and good news. And a great relief for the family of Ali Farka Touré. Stolen last week from the family home in Bamako, the Grammy Awards of the musician was brought back during the night from Friday to Saturday.

Ali Farka Touré had won this title, this important reward, a small golden gramophone, in 1995 for his album Talking Timbuktu.

It was the first time that an artist from Mali won this trophy. Ali Farka Touré’s son, Vieux Farka Touré, launched an appeal in the Malian press and on our network on Friday and called for the Grammy to return home. It was the family guardian Farka Touré who found the object in a plastic bag.

The award is broken in two, it will be repaired and displayed as before with all of Ali Farka Touré’s awards. The son of Ali Farka Touré, Vieux Farka Touré is therefore relieved, happy and he thanks all those who mobilized to find this Grammy. He is at the microphone of Guillaume Thibault from the Africa editorial team.
