Ozzy Osbourne: parade of stars for his induction into the Hall of Fame

Many artists will pay tribute to Ozzy Osbourne: Zakk Wylde, Wolfgang Van Halen, Chad Smith, Jack Black, Robert Trujillo, Billy Idol…

Ozzy Osbourne will receive a special tribute at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland on October 19. A few weeks before the event, the singer declared to Rolling Stone that he has not yet taken the measure of all this. “ I don’t know what to think. I am still in shock to be inducted for the second time. But at the same time I’m very excited “. Ozzy Osbourne was previously inducted alongside Black Sabbath in 2006.

Jack Black will have the honor of delivering the induction speech. “ Jack invited my family to the movie premiere School of Rock in 2002says Osbourne. I’ve always been a big fan of his. Jack is one of the few great actors who is also a real rocker and not playing a role. »

The festivities will include a musical tribute to Osbourne’s solo career. Although he hasn’t said whether or not he will sing, he is looking forward to it. Billy Idol, Maynard James Keenan of Tool and Jelly Roll (who recently told Rolling Stone that « Mama, I’m Coming Home was her favorite Osbourne song) will all be singing Osbourne songs at the event.

« Billy Idol is a rock iconbelieves Osbourne. His music is timeless. Billy Idol should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Maynard has been a true family friend since 1997. He is such a creative force. Few artists are able to maintain three successful groups for several decades. » (He’s referring to Tool, A Perfect Circle and Keenan’s Puscifer.)

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has assembled a group of guitarists who will have to live up to Osbourne’s high standards. The singer is famous for working with brilliant and innovative guitarists (like Randy Rhoads, posthumously inducted into the Rock Hall in 2021). The qualities that impress him in a guitarist are “ individuality, having your own sound, and [que] the guitar is your voice ».

So it makes perfect sense that Zakk Wylde, Osbourne’s right-hand man since 1987, who played and co-wrote many hits with him, would be one of the guitarists in the tribute. Producer Andrew Watt, who produced Osbourne’s last two solo albums, where he played guitar and co-wrote the songs, will also be on stage and provide musical direction. Longtime Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens will also be there, as will Wolfgang Van Halen.

The rhythm section consists of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, who was a member of Osbourne’s band from 1996 to 2003, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. The latter played on Osbourne’s last solo albums, Ordinary Man (2020) et Patient Number 9 (2022). Adam Wakeman, who has worked with Osbourne since 2004 and has played keyboards and guitar on Black Sabbath’s reformation tours in recent years, will be on keyboard.

In April, Ozzy Osbourne told Rolling Stone that he was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm expressed by his friends and fans about his induction. At the time, he wasn’t convinced of the honor given to him, but the way his fans supported him gave him renewed energy, especially as he was recovering from many problems health. And when he thinks of all the musicians participating in the tribute, he concludes: “ It’s a great lesson in humility. »
