On the occasion of the reissue of his first album “Back to Bedlam”, on October 11, 2024, the British singer launched a crazy bet on his social networks: if the opus becomes number 1 in the charts again, its performer will change by name. And will choose the one who was acclaimed by his fans.
In a post, the musician explains: “You want to ruin my life? If the 20th anniversary edition of “Back to Bedlam” goes straight to number one in the charts again, I will legally change my name to whatever you decide. Comment on this post with your suggestions (…) The comment with the most likes on my social networks on October 11 wins.”
“I’ve been called all kinds of names in my life. The most hated man in pop, boring James Beige. (…) We can say, without risk of being mistaken, that this is the most important democratic moment of the year,” says the singer, in an ironic video which accompanies the post. Currently, the name receiving the most votes on Instagram is Blunty McBlunt.
“Back to Bedlam”, which contains the iconic title “You’re Beautiful”, remains to this day the best-selling debut album in the United Kingdom over a year, recalls “HuffPost”. Its reissue will include, in addition to the remastered original songs, unreleased songs recorded twenty years ago.
