5. “SORA”

This is the song that gives the group its name. Or vice versa. “SORA” is the only real ballad from the group’s EP revealed on the show “Popstars”. Its creation, seen in the last episodes, was emanating from tears and heartbreaking confidences as Orisha, Mia, Regina and Yasmeen drew on their personal experiences to give birth to it. Soaring and poignant, “SORA”, which means “sky” in Japanese, allows the singers to exorcise the losses that have marked their lives on moving verses, but the somewhat repetitive chorus does not really do justice to the vulnerability that we feel throughout this title, especially on Regina’s magnificent introductory verse for her grandfather (” Of course I learned / To dance to your songs “) or the text of Orisha evoking his deceased father: ” Has your life been good? / Me, without hearing from you / I still took a little bit of you ».

4. “Amina”

The strength of the SOR4 group is the multiple influences of its members. And you can feel it when listening to these first four very different but coherent songs. If the first single “Comment on s’aime” offers a drum’n’bass orientation, and the others lean towards R&B, the title “Amina” explores Afropop sounds, ultra popular in playlists around the world. Produced again by Julio Masidi (to whom we owe numerous hits for Aya Nakamura), “Amina” remains the lightest track of the project, but its sunny vibe and its danceable production should certainly cause a sensation live, and in the evenings of the younger generation. But it’s really the vocal harmonies of Orisha, Mia, Regina and Yasmeen that make it all stand out because the song remains quite smooth and expected, and it would undoubtedly have required additional power if it had been a feat with Aya Nakamura or Tiakola for example. For a future remix? We hope so!

3. “The best”

More pop but still with an R&B touch, and a nice dose of melancholic, “Le Meilleur” is a bit like the little sister of “Je reste”. “ If I give you the best / What is strongest in my heart / We could build our most beautiful future gently / We just need to give each other the best » chant the four colleagues and friends on the chorus of this love song, touching, full of hope and vaporous. A title notably carried by the superb bridge performed by Yasmeen and the ghostly voices of the four singers who appear in the background like a common thread. The chorus has everything to be chanted by the crowds at their next concerts!

2. “I stay”

Comfortable on various registers, the four members of SOR4 shine especially on R&B productions. A genre made for them! Thus, offering an interpretation full of tasty nuances, Orisha, Mia, Regina and Yasmeen wander on “Je reste” with natural and impressive ease. They still needed the advice of Louane, a member of the “Popstars” jury, to write the text of this song evoking sorority, the DNA of the group. And if they all aim for the heart with their unique timbre, it is Mia who wins the prize on the second verse and these lines, both poetic and fierce, which marked the episodes of the show on Prime Video. “ And you know that if hatred cannot break hearts / I will break your heart, if I can save my sisters, I will ». Mic drop !

1. “How we love each other”

In “Popstars”, when listening to SOR4’s EP, this is obvious to everyone. Both the label and the group are convinced that the first single should be “Comment on s’aime”. It must be said that the title catches the eye from the first listen with its drum’n’bass beat, a little UFO in the French musical landscape. Each member manages to have their moment, with the opportunity to shine and deliver their signature vocals, while the pre-chorus then the chorus sets up a build-up that immediately captivates. As in the live version, we would have liked certain vocal intentions to be more pronounced in terms of production as in the live version (great) heard in the last episode of the showcase. A first title that looks like a hit!
