Another historic evening for Taylor Swift ! This Wednesday night, during the 41st edition of the MTV Video Music Awards (or MTV VMAs), the American superstar added a new record to her long collection. With seven trophies won during the evening, she simply becomes the most awarded artist in the history of the ceremony, with a total of 30 awards over her entire career, surpassing Beyoncé and her 27 victories. So last night, in the UBS Arena in Elmont, near New York, Taylor Swift won seven awards, including the major ones for Artist and Video of the Year for his huge hit “Fortnight.” Added to his list of accolades are the distinctions in the categories of Song of the Summer, Best Pop Artist, Best Collaboration (with Post Malone) and, in more technical lists, Best Editing and Direction. In a twist, Post Malone also collected five awards thanks to the hit of Taylor Swift.

“Houdini” sees double

In the rest of this list, Sabrina Carpenter is doing very well! Her hit “Espresso” was crowned Song of the Year, while the phenomenon Chappell Roan, who has just cancelled her concert in Paris, became Best New Artist against Benson Boone and Tyla. But they can console themselves with, respectively, the awards for Best Alternative and Afrobeats Videos for “Beautiful Things” and “Water”. Pop stars Billie Eilish (Best Video for Good for “What Was I Made For?”) and Ariana Grande (Best Cinematography for “We Can’t Be Friends”) distinguished themselves, as did two “Houdini”! Dua Lipa’s pop hit won Best Choreography while Eminem’s hard-hitting single was crowned Best Visual Effects and Best Hip-Hop Video.

During the MTV VMA’s ceremony, SZA, Lisa, Seventeen, Anitta, Le Sserafim and more Lenny Kravitz were also crowned. Star of the evening with a medley of his greatest hits, Katy Perry shone twice: she received the honorary Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recognizing her video career, as well as the award for the most iconic performance in the history of the MTV VMAs with her live performance of “Roar” in 2013. In this respect, she outclassed Taylor Swift (“You Belong With Me”), Madonna (“Like a Virgin” and “Hollywood” with Britney Spears et Christina Aguilera), Lady Gaga (“Paparazzi”) or Eminem (“The Real Slim Shady”).
