NB Power truck pushes protester onto picket line in Oromocto

An incident occurred on Friday on a federal public servants picket in Oromocto, New Brunswick. A protester standing in the road was pushed by an NB Power truck. A few seconds before, the vehicle had grazed another striker.

In a video posted on Facebookthe Crown Corporation truck can be seen at a standstill as protesters from thePSAC cross the road. Then, the vehicle accelerates and brushes against a person.

He continues on his way for a few meters, then brakes suddenly in front of another demonstrator posted on the road. The driver then resumed his journey despite the presence of the man, pushing him several meters.

The latter then throws the flag of thePSAC which he held in his hand on the windshield of the truck as the vehicle continued to accelerate. The demonstrator ends up returning to the side of the road, out of reach of the truck.

In a message posted on Twitter, NB Power responds. The company explains that the person driving the vehicle is not an employee of NB Power or a member of the union, but a truck driver in training. She also writes that public safety is paramount at NB Power and this incident will be dealt with promptly and appropriately.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has opened an investigation into the incident.

The police were already in the area and quickly took charge of the situation. The picketer was unharmed and did not report an injury. The driver of the truck was stopped by the police and later identifiedexplains Corporal Hans Ouellette, spokesperson for the RCMP in New Brunswick.

Last week, a similar incident occurred outside the military base in Gagetown, New Brunswick, when a truck reportedly brushed past two striking federal workers.
