“An alarming state of thinness”
In a press release, Animals in Peril continues: “The remaining ponies are alarmingly thin, are infested with internal parasites (particularly worms), and require intensive care and gradual refeeding. A worm infestation like the one they are suffering from can have serious consequences on their health, such as colic, anemia, significant weight loss, generalized weakness, and in some cases, death.
Additionally, it was found that all four ponies were unvaccinated and some were unidentified.”contrary to what Belgian legislation requires.
Teams from several shelters intervened in this matter: Animaux en Péril, Le Rêve d’Aby, Au Bonheur Animal and Veeweyde – Refuge du Marais. The associations assure that the ponies are now safe. “They benefit from the attention of professional caregivers and veterinarians. They have been urgently dewormed and are being closely monitored.”
