During a recent passage on the podcast Axe LordsKerry King, the legendary Slayer guitarist, shared a memorable anecdote on the crazy behavior of their fans, while approaching the evolution of the enthusiasm around the group and its current projects.

The ascent of an “obsessive” fanbase

When the host asked him when Slayer started to attract fans really “Fanatics”Kerry replied: “It was not from the first or the second album. I would say that it was somewhere between the third, fourth and fifth albums-perhaps between 1986 and 1988. It was then that we realized that people were not only coming to discover Our music, but also because they already knew it and wanted to experience it live. ”

As for the madness of the public, Kerry admits that he got used to it, but without ever waiting for anything in advance: “When you have expectations, you are exposed to disappointments. So I prefer to go on stage with a blank slate and see what is happening once the music begins. ”

An unforgettable scene

Asked about the craziest thing he saw during a Slayer concert, Kerry King did not hesitate: “The first time I saw a wheelchair go over the crowd with someone in it. I was on the side of Jeff [Hanneman]and we saw it at the same time. We just lowered our heads to laugh because we were not prepared for that. But once the shock is past, you say to yourself: ‘It’s cool, at least that person can participate in the party.’ ”

A busy solo career

In addition to his Slayer memories, Kerry King also spoke of his solo project. His first album, From Hell I Risereleased last May, marked a turning point in his career.
