Switzerland will compete in the world championship on Tuesday for the 12th time in its history. Unprecedented, the tournament will take place in three countries: Croatia, Denmark and Norway.
In the preliminary round, the Swiss will face Czechia, Germany and Poland. The Germans, Olympic vice-champions, are the favorites in this group A. Switzerland remains with two large defeats against its neighbor (27-14 and 36-25). The overall record shows 7 wins, 6 draws and 61 defeats. Against Poland and the Czech Republic, which will be the Helvetii’s first opponent on January 15, the results are balanced.
The top three from each of the eight groups qualify for the main round. Points from direct encounters are counted. Then, the top two of the four groups advance to the quarter-finals. The last groups of the preliminary round compete for ranks 25 to 32.
-The matches will be played from January 14 to February 2 in Croatia, Denmark and Norway. Switzerland will play the preliminary round in Herning/DEN, where it would remain if it qualifies for the main round. In case of failure, it would continue to Porec/CRO. This country will also organize meetings in Varazdin and Zagreb. In Norway, the matches will take place in Oslo, including the final and the bronze medal match.
