Roch Voisine is celebrating the 35th anniversary of one of his greatest hits in this year 2024. If he wrote the title Helene so that one of his friends, Stéphane, could offer it to his girlfriend at the time on December 24, 1981, Christmas Eve but also the birthday of the beauty in question, Helene was finally released only eight years later, in 1989, “when I became a singer“, specifies the artist to our colleagues at Closer to whom he granted an interview for the occasion. On tour in Belgium, Switzerland and France from April 1, 2025, Roch Voisine also agreed to reveal the name of his sweetheart – Marie-Ève Racine – and the circumstances of their meeting. “It bears the name of my grandmother Dorina, which is not very common in Quebec. This helped our meeting, because I immediately thought of my grandmother. I was chatting with my bassist on Facebook when I saw that he was communicating with a certain Racine, who is actually one of his friends since primary school. I said to myself 'it's still funny'. I wanted to know her and invited her to dinner“, confided the artist who encountered health problems last year.
