Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo can’t seem to hold back tears during their press tour for ‘Wicked.’ What the singer wanted to apologize for.
In recent weeks, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have been singled out by Internet users for their frequent crying during interviews to promote the musical “Wicked.” In response, the singer chose to react with humor.
“Cynthia is an absolutely brilliant human being. I think we tried to keep the pressure out of the room, as much as possible,” the singer told Paul Mescal during a conversation for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, published Tuesday, December 10. The actor jokingly replied, “I’m watching you on the press tour. You are obviously close,” to which Ariana Grande replied: “Unbearable. Yes. We are horrible. It’s terrible.”
“It’s joy and happiness”
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star as witches Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, in the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, “Wicked.” The two actresses had already admitted on the set of “Today” that they could not stop crying during interviews.
“There’s been a lot of emotional stuff that’s happened, and we’re just going with it,” the British actress told Entertainment Tonight in November, to which her co-star added, “You have to understand that it’s been three years, friends! There’s so much going on… Why does emotional availability scare you? It’s joy and happiness.”
The second part of “Wicked” is scheduled for November 2025.
