From January 1, no FM radio will receive RTS channels. Many cars are affected. Some drivers choose to adapt them, often at great expense, but there are other solutions. Report in a garage that is overwhelmed with demands.

If you have an FM radio in your car, there are several options available to continue listening to the radio from January 1: using a DAB+ adapter, using your phone to listen to the radio or completely changing the radio system in your car.

Questioned Tuesday in the 7:30 p.m., Daniele Fino chose this last option, which is the most expensive. He must pay 600 francs for a new radio and its installation. The mechanic must in fact disassemble the entire dashboard of the vehicle to install it.

Currently, two million cars are still equipped with FM systems in Switzerland. But DAB+ is presented as a new technology for the future, notably with “a greater range of programs and better audio quality”, indicates Adriano Pitteri, broadcast distribution manager at SSR. He also specifies that the electricity consumption at the SSR level is significantly lower with DAB+.

All old radios are affected. Next step at home: equip your hi-fi system with a DAB+ adapter, buy a new radio or listen to broadcasts on your favorite radio website or app.
