Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) criticizes the Cavalera brothers’ reissues

Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser has expressed his unfiltered opinion on the re-recordings of the band’s early albums made by Max and Igor Cavalera, calling the move“useless” and of “lack of respect for their own artistic past”.

Controversial re-recordings

Max and Igor Cavalera, former founding members of Sepultura, recently re-recorded the albums Morbid Visions, Bestial Devastation et Schizophreniathe latter also being Andreas Kisser’s first album with the band. If these new versions were well received by some fans, Andreas Kisser has a very different opinion.

In a recent interview with IMPACT Metal Channelhe declared: “The artistic value is zero. Maybe they’re looking to make a little money, but there’s no reason to do that. It’s really disrespectful to themselves and their own past.”

Kisser adds: “I much prefer what Jairo Guedz is doing with The Troops Of Doom, which pays homage to that era in an honest way while creating new .”

The Cavalera brothers defend their approach

For their part, Max and Igor explained that these re-recordings aimed to offer better sound quality while capturing the raw energy of their current live performances. Max said: “These albums were never recorded as they should have been at the time. Now they sound more aggressive and reflect the way we play today.”

The future of Sepultura: new songs despite the farewell tour

While Sepultura is in the middle of a world tour for its 40th anniversary (which also serves as a farewell tour), Andreas Kisser surprised fans by announcing that the band was working on new songs with drummer Greyson Nekrutman.

He declared: “We have incredible chemistry with Greyson. In addition to our live album, we plan to include four new songs.”

As for what fans can expect from these new titles, Kisser remains enigmatic: “The unexpected. Wait and see.”
