A regional radio station entirely in Breton and audible throughout Brittany was their dearest wish! However, they firmly believed in it, but the Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication (Arcom) decided otherwise.
There will therefore be no radio 100% in the Breton language in 2025…
“The Breton language is discriminated against”
Representatives of five Breton community radio stations: Arvorig FM in Landerneau (Finistère), Radio bro Gwened in Pontivy (Morbihan), Radio Kreizh Breizh in Rostrenen (Côtes-d'Armor) and Radio Naoned in Saint-Herblain (Loire-Atlantique) filed a file with Arcom in March 2024.
“Our ambition: to take advantage of the freeing up of a frequency and create Radio Breizh, the first radio station entirely in Breton broadcast in digital DAB + throughout the Breton territory,” says Alan Kloareg, president of Radio Breizh, during a conference of press conference held at Radio bro Gwened, Tuesday November 19, 2024.
The president of Radio Breizh deplores Arcom's decision.
We regret this decision. However, we were supported by local elected officials, deputies, auditors, senators. This decision is surprising. The Breton language is discriminated against.
“Being an associative radio station, it is an attack on the diversity of the media,” adds Yann-Fañch Kerneis, president of Arvorig FM.
“We believe in our project”
If this first opportunity escaped them, the representatives of the five community radio stations are not giving up. They continue to believe in this radio entirely in Breton.
“The file is ready. We believe in our project. We will continue to highlight the Breton language and highlight what is happening throughout our Breton territory.”
