“Brittany represents freedom, happiness”

Behind the modesty of the members of the Souchon tribe and the holiday memories, we discover a sincere attachment to a country that they consider “apart”. Cross-interview.

Bretons: How is this three-person tour going?

Alain Souchon: It's crazy, we have crazy success… (Laughs) We're happy to be together, to sing together. Singing binds, it connects. We are used to seeing each other often, but this is an additional, musical link.

Charles Souchon: Yes, it's going very well. As we are close in life, there is something very natural on stage, we recreate what we sometimes do in our living room. And it's very nice.

Alain : People say stupid things…

Charles : Yes, you very much. Normally he's the boss, but he doesn't want to. So he lets himself be guided…

Because, in your living room, do you sing together?

Pierre Souchon: Yes, it happens to us. And when we prepared to do this tour, we didn't really calculate, we stayed in our natural impulses. We are not studio musicians, we are very self-taught. A truth must emerge from this. We are natural, as if we were in our living room, telling each other the same jokes. And we often get very pleasant feedback. People find themselves there: family, memories, photo albums… Everyone has that.

Charles : We open the photo album a little, we project images, videos, especially of us, little ones, in Carnac… And these are fairly refined arrangements, piano, guitar. We are close to my father, we hear all the words clearly.

Alain : We don't do it on purpose, we get along well.

Pierre : There is something of the order of transmission. Our father passed on to us something that we share. We also pass it on to people. They meet there. Songs are transmissions, memories for some. Our father is an artist of transmission and, in this show, people find themselves there. And that makes us happy.

Is there something special for you about playing in ?

Alain : This is the place where we go on vacation. It’s linked to pleasure. We have been going to La Trinité-sur-Mer forever. Singing in Brittany makes us happy.

For you too, Charles and Pierre?

Pierre : We have an anchor here. Since we were born, we have been coming here. So there is a particular emotion. As for me, as soon as I leave , as I arrive at the gates of Brittany, even on the train, I have an emotion, something like a Proust madeleine, which awakens. This is where we spent all our holidays, our first freedoms, our first nightclubs, our first girls, our first loves… There hasn't been a year since we were born where we… ..
