Thomas Dutronc’s career is peppered with good news. In 2020, two years before reuniting with his father Jacques Dutronc for an album and a major tour, the singer scored the surprise success of that summer with “Frenchy”, an album of covers of French standards in jazz version. Entering second in the charts with 15,000 sales in one week, it finished its run certified platinum with more than 100,000 copies sold. “ We are super happy! Afterwards, I don’t expect anything special when I make a record. I do it as best as possible, with all my heart. You can’t succeed with all your albums but I think that’s the case with this one. “A rare and wonderful artist”

Today, another surprise awaits Thomas Dutronc. As Olivier Nusse, the boss of Universal Music France, revealed, his first album “Comme un gypsy sans guitar” has just exceeded the milestone of one million copies sold in France. A score as impressive as it is increasingly rare, which allows him to obtain a double diamond disc. A real surprise too since according to the latest available estimates, the album was estimated at around 425,000 sales and with a double platinum disc collected. “ One of my first signings as a producer in 2007 and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful stories I have experienced in this profession, with a rare and wonderful artist » rejoices Olivier Nusse, posting the photo on X of Thomas Dutronc posing proudly with his plaque.

Released in October 2007, “Comme un gypsy sans guitar” is the first album by Thomas Dutronc. Buoyed by the success of the title track and “J’aime plus Paris”, the record was certified gold in two months (at the time, this represented 100,000 sales) and allowed him to glean two nominations for the Victoires de la Music 2008 as Artist and Album revelation. The project remained ranked in the charts for three years and reached number five. “Comme un gypsy sans guitar” is therefore only the ninth album to surpass the one million sales mark since the start of the 2020 decade. It joins rap stars Damso (“Ipséité”), Nekfeu (“The wandering stars: expansion “), Orelsan (“The party is over”), PNL (“Two Brothers”) and Gims (“Black Belt”), as well as Vitaa & Slimane (“Versus”), Angèle (“Brol”) and Daft Punk (“Random Access Memories”). Good news for the artist, who has just revealed his new single “It’s never too late”, as a preamble to his fifth solo opus.
