Madonna performs in front of 1.6 million fans in Brazil

Madonna closed her tour with a free concert in Rio de Janeiro in front of a record audience.

Madonna closed her Celebration Tour on Saturday with a free concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in front of 1.6 million fans, setting the record for the largest number of spectators for a single concert by an artist in history.

This was Madonna’s first time performing in Brazil since 2012, and this concert was billed as ” a thank you to his fans for celebrating over four decades of his music during the epic global tour ” Live Nation said of the event.

Copacabana Beach has long been a magnet for epic shows with huge crowds, including the Rolling Stones concert in 2006, which attracted around 1.5 million fans (a record at the time). Madonna’s concert on Saturday night broke that record, with Live Nation estimating the attendance at 1.6 million, who turned Copacabana Beach into ” the largest dance floor in the world “.

Madonna’s setlist remained faithful to that of the last eight months, but a surprise was planned for Rio de Janeiro: Brazilian singer Anitta, who has just released her new album Funk Generationmade an appearance on stage.

Madonna’s last visit to Brazil dates back to December 2012, during the MDNA Tour. She has performed at the Parque dos Atletas in Rio, the Estádio do Morumbi in São Paulo and the Estádio Olímpico Monumental in Porto Alegre.

Madonna kicked off her Celebration Tour at London’s O2 Arena in October 2023, before touring Europe until December. The tour welcomed several notable guests: in Los Angeles, Kylie Minogue and Cardi B joined her on stage on several occasions.
