How Kendji Girac orchestrated his return, five months after his gunshot wound

The 28-year-old singer is making a comeback this Friday with a sixth album, Vivre…less than six months after hitting the legal headlines by injuring himself with a firearm.

Kendji Girac turns the page. The singer unveils this Friday October 4 a sixth album entitled Vivre…just over five months after inflicting a gunshot wound that almost killed him. A quick, almost hasty return, as if to quickly forget an episode which revealed a darker side of his personality. A return above all, under the sign of the connection with its audience, which has been loyal to it for 10 years.

The accident took place in Biscarrosse, at a reception area for Travelers, the community from which the singer comes. On the night of April 21 to 22, in his caravan, Kendji Girac shot himself in the chest during an argument with his wife, as confirmed by the investigation closed without further action. His vital prognosis is briefly compromised.

The words “simulated suicide” were pronounced a few days after the incident by the public prosecutor. The 28-year-old singer quickly found himself accused of suicide blackmail (which his wife, Soraya Miranda, denied). The case also reveals Kendji Girac’s addiction to alcohol, as well as his regular consumption of cocaine.

So many elements which shake up the very consensual and sunny image of this former candidate of The Voice. Since his telecrochet victory in 2014, the singer has displayed an impeccable media CV and a discography studded with diamond records.

Apologies

To make people forget this unfortunate episode, Kendji Girac spoke out very quickly on social networks to apologize to his audience.

On May 10, less than a month after the accident, he published a first message in which he assured that he was taking care of himself and resting. In a long message posted on Instagram, he apologizes to his fans for “all the pain and worry” he has caused them, promises to “come back even stronger thanks to (them)” and to “let this period of (his) life behind (him)”.

Without ever dwelling on the circumstances of that night. A course of action from which he will not deviate. The promotion of Vivre… will only be done in musical radio and shows. He will notably be on the set of The Voice Kids this Saturday. No confession type interview 7 to 8 is not planned.

Between the accident and this first speech, Kendji Girac never broke the link with his audience. On April 25, just three days after the accident, the public prosecutor of Mont-de-Marsan transmitted a message from the singer, still convalescing, during a press conference intended to shed light on the events.

“(Kendji Girac) regrets to all those who supported him during all these years, and whom he hopes to see again soon, that this event occurred.”

Kendji Girac: did the prosecutor reveal too many details about the singer’s life?

Adding: “He says he accepts what he did, while deeply regretting it. This is a suicide simulationwhich happened as he did not imagine.

At the beginning of May, it was Kendji Girac’s wife – and the mother of his daughter, Eva – who spoke out to rehabilitate her husband. “Kendji never blackmailed me into committing suicide, let me be clear. It never existed. I never suffered the slightest violence whatsoever from him. I am categorical. He is incapable,” she assures.

“Regain your confidence”

At the end of June, Kendji Girac took the next step and appeared on video for the first time since the accident. Again he asks for forgiveness. “I almost lost my life, the love of my family, my audience, my friends. My daughter almost lost her father. I don’t know what happened,” he declares, contrite:

“It’s up to me now to show you who I am, to regain your trust. It takes action and I will do everything to live up to it.”

And suggests a musical return, just two months after almost dying: “I can’t wait to see you again, see you soon”.

The announcement becomes more official in the middle of summer. In mid-July, the interpreter of Gypsy Color poses on the front page of Match. Alongside a series of photos which feature him in the middle of a sports session, he announces a single for September followed by an album.

And the realization arrives on August 30 with If only…a piano-voice ballad in which the singer once again evokes his regrets and his attachment to his fans: “On the stage I left my smile (…) Forgive me if I preferred to destroy myself”.

“It’s the first time I’ve spoken to you in this song because it’s you, my audience, who have been there from the beginning,” he declares in a video in which he appears in a white shirt on the edge. “I had to make a song just for you.” The same day, he announced his album. Vivre… will be released on October 4.

An unambiguous title to which he returned this week on Instagram, during a question-and-answer exchange with his subscribers: “To live is a very strong word. Realize that we must live fully, because we are lucky to be able to do it, it’s just huge,” he said. “To think that I have everything I need, all these instruments, all these friends, all these concerts, all these people who can come. I might as well do it to the fullest.”

“Living is the word that most resonated with me at that moment. I really want to take advantage of all that, to go on stage, to discover, to take advantage of everything I have.”

Starting with a signing session at the Fnac in Sainte-Geneviève-des- (Essonne), this Friday, to meet his fans. Fans who have continued to show him their sympathy throughout these last few months.

Symbolic anniversary

On social networks, always, the emphasis is placed on the singer’s iron health, through stories at the gym or on a tennis court. In addition, he is already preparing his return to the stage with a tour to celebrate his ten years of career, announced at the end of September.

The thirty dates of Our 10 years will start in January 2026 at the Zénith in and end in Brussels the following April, with a visit to the Accor Arena in Paris on March 14. Fans are invited to participate online in the design of a t-shirt dedicated to this anniversary. Ten years, more than five million albums sold and a single media scandal immediately erased.
