In a 2020 interview with Apple Music, the “Sorry” singer described her fears for the young woman. Her comments drew attention in the wake of P. Diddy’s recent arrest for alleged sex trafficking. While underage, Justin Bieber — now 30 — signed to Usher’s label, a protégé of P. Diddy.

“It was hard for me being so young, being in the industry and not knowing who to turn to, and everyone telling me they loved me, and then turning their back on you in a second… I just wanted to protect her,” the singer said of his colleague, who was 18 at the time. “I don’t want her to go through what I went through. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.”

Justin Bieber then said he hoped he could be a role model and support for the young singer: “If she needs me, I’ll be there for her. Just call me.”

He described his coming of age in the public eye as often “bad” and “dark.”

“Think about how young I was and how impressionable I was, and you have everybody telling me how great I am all the time,” he explained. “I just want people to understand the psychology of why I can potentially have problems in my life.”

Justin Bieber then admitted that he had “lived in shame” with “all that stuff in my past.”
