Ryan Reynolds had to back out of a cameo role as his best friend in Deadpool x Wolverine, a tough choice for the actor, but he continues to pay tribute to his talent

The savior of the MCU?

“Deadpool x Wolverine” has quickly become one of the cinematic phenomena of the year, thanks to an iconic and crazy duo. There is no stopping Shawn Levy’s film, which, for some, is saving the MCU. In its opening weekend, “Deadpool x Wolverine” generated $211 million at the U.S. box office and $596 million internationally, surpassing the billion mark with a total of 1.143 billion dollarsThe film now ranks 9th among the MCU’s highest-grossing films and has become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, surpassing “Joker.”

This success is due not only to its actors and their exceptional performances, but also to its biting humor and its numerous cameos, such as those of Henry Cavill as Wolverine, Blade, Elektra and even Channing Tatum as Gambit. But Ryan Reynolds’ best friend could have had his moment of glory too if his scene hadn’t been cut in the editing.

An aborted cameo

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman did a remarkable job on “Deadpool x Wolverine” and included many iconic cameos. Reynolds even got his own family involved, with his wife Blake Lively as Lady Deadpool, and his children as Kidpool and Babypool. His best friend, Rob McElhenneyknown for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” was also rumored to be in the film. He was originally set to appear as a Time Variance Authority soldier, but his scenes were deleted.

“The sequence didn’t work the way we had originally constructed it… While I’m mortified that he flew to London for a cameo that didn’t end up happening, I’m grateful that my friend was there with me on this shoot, which was very stressful because of the huge expectations,” Reynolds explained.

Even without his friend’s appearance, Reynolds continues to praise McElhenney’s talent and emphasize that he was great, as he specifies on Instagram. Moreover, this cameo was not the only one to be aborted. There was reportedly an idea for “Wolverinepool” or “Wolverpool” with a Wolverine in a Deadpool costume, as explained by David Masson, the film’s costume designer.
