“Lamentable that we make a girl naked for free”: Christine Dejoux comments on the set of Cabbage Soup

If she agreed to appear in the feature film, it was above all to realize one of her acting dreams. “I met Louis de Funès for the first time during the tests. And this is not an insignificant moment because he has been my idol since I was a kid. I think it was the desire to play with him one day that pushed me to want to be an actress. Otherwise, frankly, the story of La Soupe aux choux… it would be very hypocritical to say that I was crazy about it!“, she begins.

However, during filming, Christine Dejoux will have to bang on the table so as not to have to shoot a naked scene. She will then directly address the French star, also co-author of the film’s script.

I had read that, in one of the scenes, my character was to appear naked when she exchanges her old clothes for contemporary clothes. I said to Louis: ‘That’s out of the question!’ I found it lamentable that, in a film with such a sacred monster, we ended up fucking a girl naked for free!“, she says.

This categorical refusal could have cost the actress her place in the film, as happened to another famous actress. “On the big day, they tried to get around the problem by trying to hire an understudy, which I also objected to. Much later, I learned that the actress initially approached to play Francine was Anne Parillaud, who had also refused to undress. But there, de Funès had him fired so abruptly!“, she confides.
