A new movie Anaconda is being prepared with a nice cast, but the project is not a simple sequel or remake. Which makes it particularly intriguing.
Everyone who likes monster movies knows Anaconda. As Komodo or Lake Placidit was one of the little essentials of the genre in the 90s, discovered in video stores for the less young and the more fortunate. And Anaconda largely won the popularity contest since it gave rise to a complete franchisethat no one would have dared to imagine.
After Anaconda the predator (1997) with Jennifez Lopez and Jon Voight, so there was Anacondas: In Pursuit of the Blood Orchid (2004), Anaconda 3: Inherit It (2008), Anaconda 4: Trail of Blood (2009), and even Lake Placid vs Anaconda (2015) for the more daring. Without forgetting the obscure Chinese remake ofAnaconda in 2024.
The adventure is not over since a new film Anaconda is preparing, returning to the recipe from the first episode: a big studio film, intended for the cinema, and with a respectable cast. And it becomes much more intriguing when we know that it won’t be neither a sequel, nor a reboot, nor a remakebut a kind of comic homage and meta reinvention ofAnacondawhere characters try to remakeAnaconda before experiencing a nightmare themselves. The project is curious, and the cast is growing to make it even more attractive.
ANACONDA THE RETURN (AGAIN)
In 1997, it was Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Jon Voight and Ice Cube who faced the big bad snake in the Amazon. In the sequels, for the most part confined to television or two-euro DVD bins, the casting was much less remarkable – as proof, there was David Hasselhoff in Anaconda 3.
Anaconda version 2025 gave the color by announcing Paul Rudd and Jack Black at the top of the poster, then Daniela Melchior (seen in The Suicide Squad, Fast X et Road House). And it’s the turn of Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Selton Mello and Ione Skye join the adventure.
Thandiwe Newton is one of those excellent actresses who rarely gets roles that match her talent. Revealed in Mission : Impossible 2 in 2000, she has since been seen in The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), Crash (2004), Rock n Roll (2008), W. (2008), 2012 (2009), My Life with John F. Donovan (2018) or even Solo : A Star Wars Story (2018). But if there is one role to remember, it is that of Maeve in the series Westworldof which she was one of the hearts, with Dolores.
-Not particularly accustomed to comedy, Thandiwe Newton will therefore join the gang of gay rascals led by Jack Black and Paul Rudd, both experts in laughter – according to the studios anyway. Notably Jack Black, who recently chained Jumanji and the movie Minecraft.
WHAT IS THIS NEW ANACONDA MOVIE?
This new movie Anaconda is carried out Tom Gormican, already behind the meta trip A talent made of solid gold where Nicolas Cage played himself. It is therefore hardly surprising that he is at the head of this curious comedy.
Anaconda version 2025 should follow the adventures of a group of friends going through a small existential crisisand decides to go on vacation to remake one of the notable films of their youth (Anaconda with Jennifer Lopez, apparently). So here they are who land in the middle of the jungle, where they will have to face nature, snakes and even criminals.
According to The Hollywood ReporterJack Black will play a wedding photographer who hates his life, and Ione Skye will be his wife. Paul Rudd will play a failed actor who never made it in Hollywood.
Filming began in Australia, for a release scheduled for December 25, 2025. Hair pile after Avatar 3 SO. But there is no doubt that the studio dreams of success at Jumanjiwhich was a hit twice in the December slot.
