For several months, Fatalis is omnipresent at Marvel! First in the comics, where his new status as Sorcerer Supreme makes him terribly dangerous, and soon in the MCU, in the guise of Robert Downey Jr., who we would like to see team up with Tornado. Dr. Doom is about to become even more dangerous as he will soon be accompanied by a team of villains, the Superior Avengers, made up of alternative versions of famous villains…
From February 12, Fatalis will conquer the world
Next month, the first issue (of nine) of the series by Ryan North and
RB Silva, One World Under Doomwill finally be available for purchase. Became the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Universe since the end of Blood Hunt, Fatalis is preparing to conquer the world. Holed up behind the borders of his fictional Eastern European country, Latveria, the villain has hacked media outlets across the globe and proclaimed himself Emperor of the planet. Without knowing why, the leaders and presidents peacefully accepted this declaration, but not the superheroes, who quickly regrouped to face their enemy… Until some of them begin to see Doom’s supremacy in a positive light. And the icing on the cake is that Marvel reveals that this event will see the birth of a team of villains, the Superior Avengers, to put down the most recalcitrant vigilantes!
But who are the Superior Avengers?
Described by Marvel as “deadlier, meaner and simply superior“to that of superheroes, Doom’s Avengers team will be the star of a six-issue spin-off mini-series, which will begin publication next April. Written by Steve Fox and drawn by Luca Maresca, it will see new versions of famous villains team up to fight the vigilantes: Abomination, Phantom, Killmonger, Malekith, Doctor Octopus and Onslaught, an obscure X-Men “created” by Charles Xavier and Magneto. This team will be formed by Kristoff Vernard, the adopted son of Dr. Doom, and its members will be very different from the characters we know. Screenwriter Steve Fox also spoke about the challenge this represents:
Introducing a new character into the Marvel Universe – let alone an entire team – is both an honor and a great terror, so when editor-in-chief Wil Moss approached me about developing a powerful, secret Avengers team to One World Under DoomI knew I had to take the plunge. The Avengers readers will meet here may have some familiar names, but you will quickly learn why they consider themselves superior to other teams. This book features some of the most ruthless large-scale action I’ve ever written for Marvel, and I’m thrilled to tell this story alongside Luca Maresca. Luca masters both the most subtle mind games that play out in our history and the (sometimes literally) frenetic action.
If the personalities of these villains will be different from the ordinary, their design will also be between tradition and modernity, as artist Luca Maresca explains:
Doom is one of my favorite villains and I can’t wait for fans to discover the story of his new Avengers. In designing these characters, I tried to retaining as many elements as possible from their classic versions. Whether it’s clothing or equipment, they always reference their original character or their media versions. I was very excited to co-create new Marvel characters. Give them a life and a new identity is something I love doing, and as the story progresses, I can’t wait to peel back their layers, dig deeper, and bare their souls! Readers are in for big surprises!
What do you think of these designs? In your opinion, can this team represent a real danger for superheroes?
