A house designed for two artists in Alentejo

This house designed for two artists was designed by the famous Portuguese modernist architect Bartolomeu Costa Cabral in Alentejo, a popular region of Portugal, is both a family home and a workshop for creation. In the hilly countryside, its ocher color makes it almost invisible. Surrounded by cork oaks, it offers an uninterrupted view of meadows and fields.

We find there the sensitivity of the architect. Enhancement of natural light, choice of local materials and intelligent functionality of spaces are at the center of the project here. The exterior of the house features a series of natural volumes made from rammed earth, a traditional technique from southern Portugal. The house is divided into two distinct volumes, each with its own entrance but connected by a central patio which serves as a shaded outdoor dining space.
