The year 2024 has not been a very good year in terms of superheroic adaptations. SSU dominated the market with three (bad) films: Madame Web, Venom : The Last Dance et Kraven the Hunter. The MCU has only offered one cinema release with Deadpool & Wolverine. And finally, on the DC side, we only had Joker: Folie à Deux to sink your teeth into. Fortunately, the small screen saved the furniture a little. Here are the 8 best comic book adaptations for cinema and television in the year 2024.
 8) Deadpool & Wolverine
Released last July, Deadpool & Wolverine exploded at the box office. With more than $1.3 billion recipe, the film of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the feature film to classify the most profitable of all time. It must be said that the meeting between Wade Wilson et Logan attracted people. Unfortunately, Deadpool & Wolverine does not completely live up to our expectations. If the film sometimes manages to maintain the irreverent and violent tone of the mercenaryit’s often a gratuitous display of fan service that’s not always very clever. Talkative film, which lacks ambition, Deadpool & Wolverine East symptomatic of superhero films of our era. A flashy production, which lacks subtlety, emotion, and which is content to lazily pile up the cameos to brush the spectators in the direction of the hair. A meeting, certainly very exciting, but which undoubtedly deserved much better…
7) Echo
We stay at Marvel with the series Echo. Released at the beginning of the year, this MCU series has surprisingly fulfilled its part of the market. The show focuses on Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) and on his ambiguous and conflicting relationship with Le Caïd (Vincent d’Onofrio). The opportunity for Marvel Studios to explore culture Native American, to bring back the immense Vincent d’Onofrio in the skin of Wilson Fisk and to propose a darker, more mature and more violent series than the usual MCU run-of-the-mill. It’s clearly not the series of the century, but it’s a refreshing suggestionwhich has the merit of taking spectators towards slightly more adult horizons, and which offers extremely well executed action sequences. And then, it’s hard to forget the super muscular cameo of Daredevil !
6) The Penguin
Created by Lauren LeFrancwhat a spin-off of The Batman clearly created unanimity. Still led by Matt Reevesthis show fully respects the identity of the film with Robert Pattinson. The actor Colin Farrell is back in the shoes of Penguin in a dark, violent series, which constantly pays homage to The Sopranos. Somewhere between the comic book adaptation and the mafia series, The Penguin rests on a superb artistic directionwhich allows you to restore all its darkness to Gotham. We will simply regret a story that is a little scatteredwho does not always know what to tell, or how, and who sometimes contradicts the legacy of The Batman. We still wonder how the Dark Knight is absent from the show, and why the Penguin has such a strange trajectory compared to his status at the end of Matt Reeves’ film. But overall, it’s solid!
5) X-Men ‘97
Sequel and revival of the animated series X-Men from 1992, X-Men ’97 was the big surprise of this year 2024. Created by Beau DeMayothe show managed to modernize the excellent series of 92. The screenwriter has succeeded in retaining the themes of the time: the survival of mutants, their political and social marginalization, their rejection by humans, racism, etc. Contemporary themes which are perfectly exploited in this surprisingly mature animated series. It’s dark, it’s political, it’s violent and visually it’s insane. X-Men ’97 proves that the universe of X-Men a encore a lot of things to telland that the prism of animation can be a great springboard for telling stories. We can’t wait to see what happens next!
4) Creature Commandos
Currently being broadcast, Creature Commandos officially opened on DC Universe (DCU) they James Gunn. Created by the latter, Creature Commandos is an animated series that falls somewhere between Invincible et Harley Quinn. A disturbed, violent, offbeat, funny and touching series that exudes know-how of James Gunn. The latter, which is also inspired by his own The Suicide Squad offers extremely effective entertainment, always exciting, which manages to touch its viewer as much as to surprise them. And the action scenes are insane!
3) Invincible season 2 – part 2
We like it a lot Invincible. Created by Robert Kirkman (based on his own comics) in 2021, Invincible is a bit of a mirror of The Boys but in animated format. An extremely violent series, which takes up all the clichés of the superheroic genre to modify them, criticize them, shift them. Both Marvel and DC are taking their place in a series that seeks to recall the very essence of comics: violence, maturity, and using the superheroic prism to address modern social themes. Even if this season 2 – part 2 was a little below our expectations, the series Invincible far above the competition.
2) Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story
It is not strictly speaking a comic book adaptation. But Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is a poignant documentary film closely related to the saga Superman led by the actor Christopher Reeve. Directed by Peter Ettedgui, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is a work of crazy emotion. The documentary retraces the journey of this incredibly humane actor and sportsman. From his rise to his fall. A heartbreaking adventure that allows us to take a look full of empathy on the disabled and their daily lives.
1) The Boys – saison 4
And as usual, the bosses of the genre are the boys. The Boys season 4 has everyone in agreement again. The series ofEric Kripke is of a formidable efficiency. Violent, mindless, intelligent, the series has once again hit the mark by offering a critical look at our contemporary societyon its pyramid system and on the hegemony of our powerful. Or how to use the prism of superheroes to tell our times. Staging level, the series still puts most productions of the genre down. The story finally got a huge boost. And the conclusion of this season 4 left us on our butts. Hurry up!
