The name of the director for the next Spider-Man movie has just been revealed, and MCU fans seem pretty excited about the announcement.

Things are speeding up for the weaver on the Marvel Cinematic Universe side. This time, it’s official: Spidey will return to the MCU, still played by Tom Holland, for a fourth installment. In addition, the director of this new opus is already known, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. This sequel will be directed by Daniel Cretton, a filmmaker known for his independent projects such as States of Grace or The Glass Castle, but also and above all Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. MCU fans have therefore reacted positively to this announcement on social networks by highlighting the quality of the filmmaker’s work on Shang-Chi and in particular the production of the various fight sequences, the real strong point of this film.

A sequel in the works

Daniel Cretton will thus be the fourth filmmaker to tackle the web-slinger after Sam Raimi, Marc Webb and Jon Watts who directed all the Spider-Man films under the common banner of Sony and the MCU. And this new installment should follow Jon Watts’ trilogy. The film will be a new collaboration with Sony and Marvel, but it is difficult to see the broad outlines of the plot. We do not yet know if the story will continue the arc initiated by the end of No Way Home. It could also more logically follow Secret Wars in which Spidey could already make an appearance. Finally, this new feature film could also completely establish the link between the Venom saga and the MCU. To be continued.
