Donald Glover wants to bring this change to the saga

Earlier this month, we presented you with a selection of Star Wars films and series that you will never see, explaining why these different projects will not be able to come to fruition. A list in which we could notably find the series Lando by Justin Simien, which was not actually completely canceled, since it was Donald Glover who took over the reins of the project with his brother, in order to make a film out of it, the star having just shared his ambitions on this subject recently.

Donald Glover wants to change the tone of the franchise with Lando

Donald Glover is one of those artists with many hats.which many know but from a different perspective. Indeed, some discovered him as Childish Gambino or even mcDJ for his activities in the world of music, and we owe him several very popular titles such as the singles Redbone or even This Is America.

But to others, Glover is best known for his role as Troy Barnes on the series Community. Subsequently, the actor appeared in various projects, notably in animation, having lent his voice to Miles Morales’ Spidey in Ultimate Spider-Manbut also to Aaron Davis (aka the Prowler) in Spider-Man : Across the Spider-Versethus resuming the role he had in Spider-Man: Homecoming. We could also see it in the series Atlanta et Mr. et Mrs. Smith. But what interests us more today, This is obviously his role as Lando Calrissian. (real name Landonis Balthazar Calrissian) In Solo: A Star Wars Story.

A role that he was initially supposed to reprise in the series dedicated to the famous smuggler that he plays in the 2018 film, thus succeeding the version of Billy Dee Williams discovered in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. But finally, after the departure of Simien who initially officiated as screenwriter and showrunner of the series, it was Donald Glover who took up the torch with his brother Stephen Glover. And in September 2023, we learned that the series project had been abandoned in favor of a film.

Since then, we have had very few details on the progress of the feature film, the numerous changes in terms of both the format and the creative team having pushed the project back. But in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Glover gave some insight into his expectations for the project, including what he wanted to accomplish with it. Lando.

I just want it to be fun. As a Star Wars fan, I think it’s important to have more fun, because it’s really hard to have fun right now. It’s hard because there’s really serious stuff going on and those are the only things that connect us, weirdly, so I understand why things are serious. But I think part of the human experience is that we have a responsibility to have fun. And I feel like we’re missing out on that fun.

I love Star Wars, but sometimes it’s very serious, and sometimes it’s way too serious. Everything Skywalker-related is very serious. I think the best thing about Lando is that he’s a rascal and I think people can relate to him. That’s probably the kind of guy that [de personnage] to say, ‘This war is bullshit, I need money,’ which everyone can relate to, so I just want it to be fun.

It remains to be seen whether the film Lando will eventually come to fruition, and if so, when?. But one thing is for sure, many Star Wars fans are more than eager to see Glover back in the shoes of the famous smuggler, especially since his interpretation of the character in Solo had been very well received by most.

And to learn more about the Star Wars franchise, find out what this statement from Hayden Christensen to Ewan McGregor is that will surely move you.
