'The Mummy' will be revived at the hands of the director of this great recent horror hit

It would be said that 'the mummy' He is a public domain character. It is enough to imagine some stereotypical anecdote of the Ancient Egyptan excuse for one of its inhabitants to be resurrected today, and we already have a film that can be titled The mummy. Even so Universal has been for decades the studio to attend to if we thought about this narrative excuse, with several films between the 30s and 40s, three successful films with Brendan Fraserand then… the Tom Cruise.

In 2017 Universal wanted to put the Dark Universe to upgrade your classic monsters. The film that Cruise starred in was an embarrassing failure, which sank the saga's chances of continuing even when the stars had already been signed. The Dark Universe has remained a nice story while Universal curiously continues to revitalize its monsters without a transmedia vocation (it will soon release Nosferatufor example), but from other corners of the industry there is once again interest in the curse of The mummy.

New Line has resorted to Atomic Monster (seal of James Wan) y Blumhouse to produce a new The mummy. You have already chosen director and screenwriter: Lee Cronina filmmaker who after several shorts and some series like 50 States of Fright made a lot of noise in 2023 with Infernal Possession: The Awakening. The idea was that this late sequel to the saga of Sam Raimi will jump directly to streamingbut a last-minute change of heart guaranteed a surprise box office success: 150 million dollars from a minimal budget, which catapulted Cronin.

“This movie it won't look like to any other of The mummy that you have seen. “I'm digging deep into the earth to unearth something ancient and very terrifying,” Cronin declared while publishing the cover of his script on Instagram, with the title first crossed out and then blatantly revealed. Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. Hinting, perhaps, that it will be a particularly authorial film and detached from the versions of The mummy that we have become accustomed to seeing.

Nothing is known about the plot or the cast, but there is already a release date: April 17, 2026.
