“It's not about money”

Who doesn't remember 'The Mask', and that Jim Carrey role that led him to stardom 30 years ago. Well, know that Jim Carrey once had the opportunity to recover his iconic character, but decided to reject the offer.

In fact, He was offered a salary of 10 million dollars to star in a sequel in 2005, and not even for those – if we take into account that he “only” earned $450,000 for the original film. At that time, Carrey revealed to Barbara Walters that his experience working on the sequel to 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' made him think twice before returning to old roles. At that time he was not interested in playing the same character twice.

However, it seems Carrey's perspective changed over time. In a recent Comicbook interview, he talked about some of his roles in blockbusters. It seems that the actor, known for his comedic genius, might not be as against reprising his iconic characters as before. Carrey has recently expressed interest in reprising some of his old roles, and one of them could be The Mask. When talking about the possibility of reprising characters from the past, Carrey said that he is willing to play Stanley Ipkiss again, but only if the right idea comes along.

For Carrey, it's not about the paycheck or rushing into a sequel just for the sake of nostalgia. On the contrary, he believes that a great story or the opportunity to collaborate with an inspiring team could easily bring him out of semi-retirement as an actor. “My God, it has to be the right idea. If someone had the right idea, I guess… It's not really about money. I joke about money… But you never know. You can't be definitive about these things “.

In 2022, Carrey hinted that he was stepping away from acting for good, but later clarified that it was not a permanent decision. He described it more as a period of “energetic rest,” leaving room for exciting projects that rekindle his passion. “I said I would like to retire, but I think I meant more of a period of rest. As soon as a good idea comes along, or a group of people you enjoy working with, things tend to change.” The actor, famous for his unique comedic style, has always been selective with his roles. Carrey's willingness to return for 'The Mask' will always arouse curiosity. After all, his bizarre and exaggerated performance in the 1994 film is still valid. Why not?

Joaquín Gasca is an expert in competitive sports, technology and motorsports. Some time ago he hung up his cleated boots to focus on paddle tennis and running… age-related things, he complains. But he also signs up for any bombing that has to do with pushing his body to the limit, whether driving an Aston Martin or going to the office on a scooter.

He is very Atlético de Madrid, so when footballers like Marcos Llorente or Álvaro Morata have starred on the cover of Men's Health, he was there to write them. He has just run his first marathon for Runner's World, and as happens in this universe, he is already looking for the next one to get under 3 hours. If you have to test any type of paddle tennis racket, vehicle or watch, it is no problem. Even sneakers. Whatever you need in sports equipment.

Joaquín graduated in journalism from USP-CEU in 2013, but since 2009, when he joined the University newspaper, he began working as a 360-degree “journalist” in digital and print. The next steps of his almost 15-year career were taken doing culture and sports at Shangay magazine, until he joined Hearst a week before the start of the pandemic in 2020. He is also a professor of social networks and new technologies at Universitas Senioribvs CEU and is part of Hearst's Innovation HUB to research new trends.
