Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was first announced in 2020, when Disney attempted to define the future of the universe after the conclusion of the last trilogy. Unfortunately, two years later, Lucasfilm removed the film from its release schedule. At that time, it transpired that Patty Jenkinsthe director announced for the project, had left the production to focus on the third installment of Wonder Woman. However, with recent changes in the plans of DC Studios and the cancellation of this latest feature film, the project set in a galaxy far, far away seems to have returned to the drawing board.

He insider of the industry Daniel Richtman ensures that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is again in active development. This is encouraging news, especially considering that other projects in the franchise, such as the Taika Waititihave been definitively archived. The statements also support previous comments from Jenkins, who months ago revealed that he was still working on new drafts of the script.

“When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, I thought maybe I would return to Star Wars after that movie. So we made an agreement to make that happen”declared the director. “We ended the deal just as the strike began. Now I owe a Star Wars draft and we'll see what happens next”he added. At the time, Jenkins recognized that the road ahead was long and that her goal was to deliver a film that both she and Lucasfilm They could consider it a source of pride.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was planned to follow a new generation of Rebel Alliance pilots as they attempt to become the best squadron in the galaxy. Beyond his admiration for the franchise created by George Lucas, Jenkins had mentioned that this project has a special value for her, as she seeks to honor her father, Captain William T. Jenkins, a pilot in the US Air Force, through a definitive film about fighter pilots.

For now, Lucasfilm did not issue an official statement or confirm a release window for the film.
