Susan Béjar diligently takes on this remake of the moderately steely, and very French, ‘My Dearest Children’ (Alexandra Leclère, 2021), adapting it with office worker functionality to the Spanish idiosyncrasy. We are in well-known territory, with the difference that here the problem is not that of children who do not want to leave the nest, but that of those who have emancipated themselves too quickly. With these somewhat fragile wickers, The mess arises, above all, to show off the joke of some Resines and Olayo, kings of the party, in roles that, decades ago, Martínez Soria and Florinda Chico would have embodied. The comedy is not far from being a twist on ‘What do we do with the children?’ (P. Lazaga, 1967) with a few drops of the acidity of ‘How to kill dad… without hurting him’ (R. Fernández, 1975).

A thick farce, somewhat chaotic, very predictable, with an ugly touch… and quite funny. A plus of joys: Clara Lago defends her character very well, adds the innate grace of Raúl Cimas and Bianca Kovacs, both with great moments, and the anomalous, almost extraterrestrial light of Lucía Caraballo.
