The story of the film

In this version, “Superman already exists. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex Luthor hates Superman from the start, even though they don’t know each other personally. We start in the middle of the action and the film takes place over a short period of time,” said the director-writer.

He also indicated that Lois already knows the identity of Superman in this feature film whose tone will not be as comedic as other superhero films that Gunn has previously directed, such as Suicide Squad or the trilogy of Guardians of the Galaxy :

“There is humor in the film but the tone is more anchored in reality, even if we are talking about a very fantastic world. The film is inspired by things like Game of Thrones to present a universe where super -heroes really exist.”

Who is in charge of Superman ?

James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Peacemaker) signs the screenplay for this new film which he also directs.

He said he was inspired by Top Gun : Maverick to film the scenes of Superman taking place in the air, using flying drones around David Corenswet, who lends his features to the Man of Steel, and other actors in order to make the film’s action scenes as thrilling as possible.

John Murphy (Kick-Ass, 28 days later, Suicide Squad) composes the music for the film, and this refers to the iconic soundtrack of the film Superman (1978) by Richard Donner written by John Williams.

What release date for Superman ?

The filming took place from February 29 to July 30, 2023, between Norway and the USA. This new version of Superman is expected in French cinemas on July 9, 2025, and two days later in the United States.

As mentioned previously, David Corenswet (Pearl) plays Superman/Clark Kent in James Gunn’s film.

He plays opposite Rachel Brosnahan (The Fabulous Mrs. Maisel) et Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max : Fury Road) who lend their features to two other iconic characters from DC comics: Lois Lane and Lex Luthor.
