Present since the beginnings of the saga, the star of Friends will once again star opposite Neve Campbell in this seventh film, expected in 2026.
Courteney Cox returns for Scream 7. The American actress will return to the role of the unscrupulous journalist Gale Weathers in this new part of the horrific saga, expected on February 25, 2026. A return which makes her the only actress from the first film, released in 1996, to appear to the casting of all Scream which followed.
As Variety recalls, which reveals the information, this new part will be directed by Kevin Williamson, screenwriter of Scream, Scream 2 et Scream 4:
“In terms of choice, we couldn’t do better,” the “Friends” actress told American magazine in September, before her return was made official. “It’ll be fun.”
The star returns
No information regarding the plot of Scream 7 has not yet been filtered, but its casting is taking shape. Neve Campbell, star of the first five parts, will make her comeback in the role of Sidney Prescott; the 51-year-old Canadian actress had deserted the franchise in the sixth part, due to a disagreement over the fee offered to her.
Mason Gooding, who played Chad Meeks-Martin in Scream 5 et 6will also be back. Deadline also indicates that actress Isabel May (Young Sheldon, Masters of the air) will make her first steps in the saga, where she will play Sidney Prescott’s daughter. So much information which reassures about the future of this seventh film, which for a time seemed condemned to limbo after a series of disappointments.
Complicated development
After four first parts released between 1996 and 2011, the saga Scream had been relaunched in 2022 with a fifth feature film. He staged a new generation of teenagers grappling with the bloodthirsty Ghostface, guided by the key characters from the first films.
The new cast was led by Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, who played the sister duo Tara and Sam. Star of the fifth and sixth films, Melissa Barrera had been dropped from the project Scream 7 in 2023 after controversial comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
To support Palestine, she notably relayed a publication denouncing “a distortion of the Holocaust to stimulate the Israeli arms industry”. She also accused “Western media of only showing (the Israeli side)”:
“Why are they doing this? I’ll let you draw your conclusions,” she added, as reported by Time Magazine.
“We have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism,” producer Spyglass Media said in a statement explaining the actress’s dismissal. Jenna Ortega, Hollywood’s new darling, had removed from the project immediately.
The American media then cited her unavailability due to another shoot, but many Internet users interpreted this resignation as a gesture of support for her colleague. A month later, it was the director Christopher Landon who announced that he had withdrawn.
