James Gunn took Tom Cruise’s most successful film as a reference to film the craziest and most complicated scenes of Superman

There is very little left to enjoy the first preview of Supermanthe film that will mark the beginning of the new DC Studios universe and with which James Gunn aspires to take the franchise to the top. The film promises to be full of action and spectacular moments, and to live up to this iconic superhero, the director has worked intensely on the most challenging and ambitious scenes of the project.

In an exclusive press conference for a small group of journalists who had the opportunity to see the trailer for the first time, James Gunn revealed that, for the flight scenes, they took as reference the impressive sequences of Top Gun: Maverick with the aim of authentically transmitting the Man of Steel’s flying experience.

“Being able to film scenes in the sky was really tricky. We took a lot of ideas from like Top Gun: Maverick, where we used real drones flying in and around Superman,” Gunn explained. In addition, he revealed that these scenes were filmed on sets specially designed for this type of sequences, which allowed every detail to be captured with precision.

There is no doubt that DC Studios is betting heavily on turning this blockbuster into an unprecedented success and the starting point of an ambitious project that will seek to compete directly with Marvel Studios. Superman will hit theaters around the world on July 11, 2025.
