Steven Soderbergh releases two films in the first quarter of 2025: the haunted house experiment ‘Presence’ arriving on January 24 and the spy film ‘Confidencial (Black Bag)‘ which arrives in the US on March 14. The latter is starred by Cate Blanchett in her first film directed by Soderbergh since ‘The Good German’, a tribute to black and white film noir from 2006, accompanies Michael Fassbender, who starred in ‘Haywire’ for the director.

The first trailer for ‘Confidential’ shows Blanchett and Fassbender as married spies who have their obvious dalliances of interests between them. According to the Focus Features synopsis, the film is:
“A gripping spy drama about legendary intelligence agent George Woodhouse and his beloved wife Kathryn. When she is suspected of betraying the nation, George faces the ultimate test: loyalty to his marriage or his country.”
The film’s cast also includes Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Naomie Harris, Pierce Brosnan and Tom Burke and was filmed in London last year. It is produced by Casey Silver and Gregory Jacobs. The script is written by the legendary David Koepp, who recently wrote the scripts for Soderbergh’s ‘Kimi’ (2022), starring Zoe Kravitz, in addition to ‘Indiana Jones and the Doomsday Dial’ or the upcoming ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’.
The Oscar-winning Soderbergh has also just presented his next project, ‘The Christophers’, with a cast that includes Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel and James Corden to film this black comedy in London next February. The script, written by Soderbergh’s contributing screenwriter Ed Solomon, concerns “the estranged children of a famous artist who hire a forger to complete his unfinished works so they can be discovered and sold after his death.”
