‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ will be the second film in the new DC Universe – The Seventh : Your film website

After ‘Superman‘ (released July 11, 2025), ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ It will be the second film to be released from the new DC Universe by James Gunn and Peter Safran. But it was not always like this, since its destiny was to occupy another position with respect to other announced DC projects. Speaking about the development of this film, Gunn gave the reasons why the new Supergirl film will take second place within this Universe:

“I didn’t necessarily know that ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ would be the second movie we were going to do, but Ana [Nogueira] wrote an amazing script and then we hired an amazing director [Craig Gillespie]and we are going to make this movie after ‘Superman’ because it is without a doubt the best option”.

Gunn also confirmed that other films have been written, but seeing as the script for ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ seems the most complete, everything sped up: “Other films have been written, but they haven’t been as good as this one. So we’re going to continue with that. Quality comes first in every project we do. And that’s more important than telling a great meganarrative”.

While Gunn didn’t confirm what those other films were, the third DCU film is expected to be ‘Clayface‘, whose premiere will arrive on September 11, 2026. Another film that also already has a release date is ‘Dynamic Duo’which will arrive on June 30, 2028.

Going back to ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’the film will arrive on June 26, 2026 under the direction of Craig Gillespie and a script by Ana Nogueira. Regarding its protagonists, Milly Alcock will play the main protagonist Kara Zor-El, while Matthias Schoenaerts will be the villain Krem and Eve Ridley will be Ruthye Marye Knoll, a traveler from another planet who hires Supergirl to help her in her search for revenge against the man who killed his father in cold blood.
