It’s been a year and a half since Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse premiered in theaters around the world. The third and final installment of the trilogy was initially expected to arrive the following year, but Sony decided to delay it indefinitely. Now, after several months of silence, the studio has decided to make a move with one of its most anticipated films.
As we have learned thanks to the American portal Deadline, Sony Pictures Animation has chosen the filmmakers Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson as directors and main managers of the third and final installment of the successful saga.
Both filmmakers were already part of the previous installments: Persichetti co-directed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, while Thompson played the role of animation director on the same film and co-director on the sequel. This change in direction comes after the departure of Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, who had played key roles in the first two films.
Now, Persichetti and Thompson will assume the responsibility of taking the Miles Morales to the big screen, in what promises to be an epic ending to the trilogy. Despite this update, the release date remains a mystery. Recently, it was confirmed that Sony does not plan to release this third film in 2025, so audiences will have to wait until 2026 at least to enjoy the end of this acclaimed animated saga.
